no longer STTN, but back on the bottle ...

... I guess you can't win 'em all. Since he turned four months, Colson has been waking up again in the middle of the night to eat. At first I thought it was because I was sleeping in the same bed with him while we were at my parents' house, but since we've been back, he's still been waking up. At first it was 2am and 4am, then 1am and 3am, then 1am, 3am, and 5 am. Last night takes the cake -- he woke up to eat at midnight, then was stirring around 1:20am and woke up, not to eat, he didnt even cry, he was just up and looking around. Finally close to 2am, I fed him and he fell asleep, but only until about 2:15! He was up from then until 4am -- just talking to himself. There's a nightlight in his room so he was staring at the mobile and talking to himself -- but it was loud. Finally, I figured he was fine and entertaning himself, so I shut his door and went back to bed. He was still up at about 4 -- I turned on the mobile and he finally fell asleep at 5. But only until 5:30 ... it was a long night.

I read that around this age, babies are going through major developmental stages and so they are learning and more distracted during the day, so they eat less during the day and need to make up for it at night.

But we also have good news to report! Colson may be back into the bottle ... don't want to jinx it! While we were at my parents, my mom gave him a bottle everyday. It was hard, but each time she managed to distract him enough to get a couple of ounces in. But I know that he guzzles down way more than 2 ounces at an avaerage feeding. On the 24th we went to a wedding and left Colson with Nick's mom. The wedding was half an hour away and we planned on being gone until at least 10:00. I was worried that Colson was going to give his grandmother a hard time ... but when we got back home, she said that he did a great job and sucked down a bottle and a half - no problem! So we are continuing to give him a bottle at least every other night. Fingers crossed!

hey ladies :)

on vacation :)

Colson and I are at my parents house in Lancaster right now. Nick had a guys trip over the weekend and we are all going to a family friend's wedding this weekend, so Colson and I came down first and Dad is meeting us this Friday.

So we flew down last week on Thursday afternoon ... just me and Colson, I was nervous about how he was going to do, but he did great! Never even cried :) Here's a couple pics of us in the airport and in the plane ...

My parents are loving being able to see him everyday :) On Saturday, we headed down to Huntington Beach to my parents' beach house and took him on a walk along the beach bike path ... he didn't like the stroller too much, so I had to strap him into the baby bjorn. The baby bjorn has been a life saver for us!

We also stopped by my aunt and cousins' house on Sunday and Colson got to meet yet even more family for the first time.

Tonight my moms' cousin and his wife and daughters are coming over for some swimming & dinner ... they'll get to meet Colson for the first time too!

Also, Colson turned four months old last Friday! Time is just passing too quickly! Boo, I'll have to be back at work in 2 months :(

Sleep report: since we've been at my parents, Colson and I have been sharing a bed, and he's been waking up once a night to nurse ... hmm .... before we got here he was sleeping 7-9 hour stretches at home! I hope we get back to that when we're back.

Bottle report: huge FAIL. My mom has been diligently and patiently trying to train Colson to get back onto the bottle since we've been here (we had a couple weeks go by without a bottle about a month ago, and since then he won't take one), but Colson is not having any of it. Now we're back onto trying to sippy cup ...

happy birthday mom!

So, unfortunately I had to celebrate another birthday this year :( Last year in our 20s for me & Nick ...

It was on a Wednesday, so we had a nice family dinner at Mama Susanna's, an Italian Restaurant in River Park -- YUM!

Crystal & Conor's Wedding

Our good friends Crystal & Conor got married on July 4th. Colson's first dress-up event! I couldn't find a shirt/tie combo in a size small enough for him ... so we improvised :)

He did pretty well at the wedding ... except for being really fussy when it was time to eat. He is so picky about eating: about where we eat, about the position he's in when he's eating, about taking a bottle ... oh well, I'm not complaining, since otherwise, he is a great, happy baby!

the BOB

okay - another baby gear term "the BOB." We discovered this was the best/most popular brand of jogging stroller on the market ... so we had to have it!

Colson has outgrown his infant carseat, so we are putting him into strollers on his own now. Here we are on an outing to the farmer's market.

Finally STTN!!

While I was pregnant I became addicted to a website called thebump.com. It is everything pregnancy & baby related and I was constantly on there reading articles and in the chat rooms chatting with other pregnant gals ... now I am still logging in often and chatting with other moms about all things baby. So, I had never really been a huge computer chatting person before, but I quicly picked up on all the chat acronyms and abbreviations. One of them was STTN = sleeping through the night: a milestone so major that it got its own acronym!

Anyway, Colson is finally STTN!! After a long (seems like) 3 1/2 months, I can finally say that, yes, it's true! He'll be four months this weekend, so he's been STTN for about two weeks now, so I think it's safe to say that its been consistent enough without me jinxing it!

Last night he went down at 9pm and didnt wake up to eat until 7am! Well he was stirring around a bit around 3am, but I just went in and repositioned him and gave him a few pats and he was back to sleep. These long stretches of sleep for me are AMAZING! I can't believe it sometimes -- too good to be true. Or I find myself going into the nursery to see if he is ok - lol :)

Now, if we could just get him back on the bottle ....
